Microsoft Windows 98 for New PC Users

Microsoft Windows 98 Windows 98 was designed to be an upgrade to Windows 95. While Windows 95 was substantially different from its predecessor Windows 3.1, Windows 98 and Windows 95 look and feel almost the same.

Windows 98 for lack of a better term is basically a revision to Windows 95 – not entirely different but like Windows 95 with some niceties, some bug fixes, better hardware support and able to do a much better job integrating your computer with the internet (world wide web).

If I may be allowed to interject a bit of humor, Windows 98 is simply Windows 95 after a couple of years on the job. It is a little bit faster, a little bit more reliable and a tad bit better at navigating itself (and you) out of tricky (computer) situations.

More User Friendly (easy to use)

With new features such as FAT32 an improved version of the file system, it is now possible to use larger hard drives without the 2 Gigabyte (GB) partition limit. Also new to Windows 98 were improved wizards for power management, remote access and support for multiple displays (you can now use two monitors at once).

Internet Integration Enhancements

Using the new Integrated Internet Shell (active desktop) feature, you can make our internet experience. Active Desktop makes your desktop feel as if it is one big browser (Internet Explorer).

Other features were Dial Up Networking Improvements, Advanced Web Browsing and an Online Services folder.

Increased Manageability and System Maintenance Helps to make your computer easier to network and also made it easier to update your system files.

A Different Version of Windows 98 – Enter Windows 98 SE Windows 98 SE or Second Edition, was a bug fix for windows 98. It also included a feature known as Internet Connection Sharing, which let’s you share your internet connection with other computers on your home network.
